FCC Meets with Li Tie and Delegation

  In the morning of Oct. 20th, 2015, Future Cities Catapult (FCC) had a meeting with the Director General of China Center for Urban Development (CCUD), Li Tie, and his delegation during their visit in the UK to investigate and research the smart city construction in the UK.

  After the attendants from both parties introduced themselves, Peter Madden, CEO of FCC, gave a brief introduction about FCC, and went on to talk about how to deal with traffic congestion as an illustration of solving urban problems by publishing and sharing data and with good municipal management. By way of marketizing urban development creativities, FCC was able to promote economic growth and build better cities. FCC Head of Projects Stefan Webb introduced a new urban strategy of using data to better serve the city. Steve Turner, Head of Smart Cities at Manchester City Council spoke about diversified cooperation between China and the UK in smart green cities and plans to make cities such as Wuhan, Xuzhou, and Qingdao smarter and greener. FCC Project Lead Gemma Ginty spoke about strategic urban planning. Attendees from both parties exchanged ideas of Sino-British cooperation in smart cities.

  At the end of the meeting, Adam Rae, Chief Data Scientist of FCC, Alex Wrottesley, Geovation Hub Manager, and Ivor Wells, International Relations Manager, gave the Chinese delegation a tour to the Urban Innovation Center of FCC.

  Director General Li Tie introduced CCUD and China Smart Cities Development Alliance, as well as the opportunities and great market potential in China’s smart city industry. He also expressed the willingness to cooperate with FCC in building smart cities.

  This trip was supported by “China Prosperity Strategic Programme Fund (SPF)” of Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO). The purpose was to boost smart-city-related business and research cooperation between China and the UK, to improve the capability of Chinese city administrators, entrepreneurs, and relevant personnel to build smart cities, and to strengthen the communication and long-term cooperation between China and the UK. The Chinese delegation was led by Li Tie, the General Director of CCUD. The rest of the delegation included Liu Yong, Deputy Director of Department of High-Tech Industry of NDRC, Liu Yue, Deputy Director of International Cooperation Division of CCUD, Zheng Mingmei, Executive Deputy Secretary General of Smart City Development Alliance, Feng Bo, Deputy Director of Smart Low-Carbon City Division of CCUD and Deputy Secretary General of Smart City Development Alliance, Liu Tianwen, President and CEO of iSoftstone Co.,Ltd, Peng Qiang, Executive Vice President of iSoftstone Co.,Ltd, Liu Yi, Vice President of iSoftstone Co.,Ltd, Xiao Meng, Director of International Cooperation Department of Digital China, Zou Renying, CEO of PMO Co.,Ltd, Ma Xueli, Urbanization Director of British Embassy Beijing, Jin Weichen, Low Carbon Growth Manager of British Embassy Beijing, Lin Yu, Science And Innovation Officer at British Embassy in Beijing, and Wu Chengcheng, interpreter.
