DCLG published a prospectus on ‘Locally-Led Garden Villages, Towns and Cities’ in March 2016. It follows on a prospectus on ‘Locally-led Garden Cities’ in April 2014. This prospectus extends DCLG existing offer to support local areas who want to create garden communities on a smaller scale. It offers tailored support to local areas which want to deliver a new garden village, town or city for new ‘garden villages’ of between 1,500 to 10,000 homes. The UK Government’s intention at this stage is to support up to 12 new garden village proposals.
The UK NHS England as part of the Department of Health has a Healthy New Towns programme will be working alongside 10 new towns across the country to offer challenge, inspiration and support as they develop their ambitious plans for building healthy communities. The specific focus is on creating healthy new communities but there are synergies with the Garden Cities and Villages, and many sites are designated Eco-towns, Garden Villages as well as a Healthy New Town. For example Bicester and Northstowe.
