Introduction to CICDA

China International Cities Development Alliance (hereinafter referred to as ‘Alliance’) was established by China Center for Urban Development of National Development and Reform Commission with Chinese cities under the guidance of National Development and Reform Commission. The Alliance announced its inception on the EU-China Forum on Sustainable Urban Development on March 20th, 2017. The Alliance aims at “introducing international resources and providing international platform to cities,”enhancing the cooperation and exchanges among Chinese cities, enterprises, think tanks and organizations with their foreign counterparts, drawing from each other’s strength and achieving win-win result so as to  promote more international cities (parks, corporations, think tanks and organizations) to form pairs and enrich the outcome of international cooperation on urbanization. The Alliance also works to increase the international influence of cities on international platform. Based on the paired cities of EU-China urbanization partnership, the Alliance actively draws the participation of cities at all levels across China.

The Principle & Goal of the Alliance

The Alliance also works to increase the international influence of cities on international platform. Based on the paired cities of EU-China urbanization partnership, the Alliance actively draws the participation of cities at all levels across China.

A total  of  90 units were included  as the first batch of members after the formal application procedure, including 67 municipalities (including prefectural-level  and county-level cities), two national-level new areas and 21 towns. The Secretariat of the Alliance is responsible for the daily operation and management of the Alliance. Its responsibilities are carried out by the International Cooperation Division of China Center for Urban Development.

Major responsibilities of the Alliance

1.Providing communication platform. By organizing such activities as forums, seminars, expositions and researches, we provide an opportunity for international and domestic communication so as to establish the contact mechanism of city mayors.

2.Pilot cities. By building pilot cities on international cooperation and pilot projects with foreign counterparts, we work to promote the typical cases and relevant experience of new urbanization and distinctive town on international platform so as to increase the international influence of Chinese cities.

3.Targeted matching. Guided by the demands, we provide customized matching service for cities.

4.International research and training. We offer technological assistance and establish international technical team to build more responsive cities in all aspects.

5. Policy planning. We provide theoretical support and carry out the planning and design for urban development.

6. Project Research. We conduct research with cities, address development challenges, edit and publish the Annual report on international cities.

7. Investment and financing service. Relying on the  new urbanization fund, we provide high-quality, convenient and diversified investment and financing channels, as well as financial solutions for Chinese and foreign urbanization projects.

China International Cites Development Alliance is committed to creating an authoritative platform and network for exchanges and cooperation among cities, enterprises, think tanks and organizations.
